Innovating together — Plant Breeding in the 4th Industrial revolution
On behalf of the Southern African Plant Breeding Association (SAPBA) I have the pleasure to announce the 13th SAPBA symposium to be held from March 8th - 11th 2020, at the Future Africa Campus, University of Pretoria, a place where Africa's leading scientists and scholars from across the world and from a broad range of disciplines will come together to leverage the benefits of transdisciplinary research to address the grand challenges that face Africa and the world.
The past decade has seen a revolution in genotyping creating large sets of data which has called for more accurate and precise phenotyping strategies. The multidisciplinary nature of the phenomics and the need for reliable, automatic and high-throughput phenotyping platforms gave rise to the 2020 SAPBA symposium theme of "Innovating together — Plant Breeding in the 4th Industrial revolution'
A diverse group of distinguished key-note speakers will introduce the concept of the fourth industrial revolution, which is the current and developing environment in which disruptive technologies and trends such as the Internet of Things (IOT), robotics, virtual reality (VR) and artificial intelligence (Al) are changing the way we live and work, within the multidisciplinary nature of plant breeding.
More information regarding plenary speakers will be made available on the SAPBA website, but I would also like to encourage groupings and/or institutions that would like to sponsor and/or nominate plenary speakers to contact the symposium secretariat.
In order to boost the attendance and participation of the whole breeding fraternity, the cost of attendance will be kept as close as possible to that of the previous symposium.
Details of the scientific program, presentation and poster formats, lodging options and other useful information as well as registration will be available on the SAPBA website from September 8th , 2019. Please, share this announcement with colleagues who may be interested and may not have received this announcement.
